Adam Charlap Hyman is the cofounder of Charlap Hyman & Herrero, an architecture and design practice out of New York and Los Angeles, working across an ever-widening array of projects from set design and residential interiors to freestanding buildings, store design, and exhibition design. As a returning member of our Design + Art Advisory Council for the 14th edition of Salon Art + Design, Adam joined us for a round of rapid-fire questions on art and design collecting myths, design movements that inspire him, and more.

Advice
What’s one myth about art or design collecting you’d like to debunk?
Collecting trends are not the same as curatorial trends; personally, I think it is much more interesting to pay attention to curatorial trends.
How do you decide when a piece is “worth it”?
I always feel that a piece is worth it if I know I'd be happy to live with it forever, in case it becomes worthless.
