Pierre Yovanovitch founded his eponymous design agency in 2001 after a career as a menswear designer for Pierre Cardin led him to follow his creative passions into interior architecture and design. His global portfolio includes residential, scenography, hospitality, and commercial projects. As a new member of our Design & Art Advisory Council for the 14th edition of Salon Art + Design, Pierre joined us for a round of rapid-fire questions on recent projects that pushed him creatively, the piece in his collection that always sparks conversation, and more.

Art + Design Favorites

If you could add one museum piece to your personal collection, what would it be?

A Pierre Bonnard painting I love from the Fondation Maeght Collection.

Which design era or movement most inspires you right now?

Swedish Grace will always be a big inspiration for me.

What’s a piece in your collection that always sparks conversation?

I would say the Bear Chair pieces as it's obvious there is a storyline behind those pieces.

If you could collaborate with any artist or designer, living or dead, who would it be?

Jean Michel Frank.

What’s your favorite space you’ve ever visited for its design or art alone?

Stockholm’s City Hall is such a magnificent space.

Plugs

What’s a project from the past year that pushed you creatively?

A particularly ambitious residential project in St. Moritz. The homeowners really encouraged me to think outside of the box creatively. It was a challenge but so fulfilling to see it all come together.

What’s next on your own creative or collecting horizon?

I am working on the scenography for The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’s production of Die Walküre in Rome which is very exciting. I have a longstanding passion for the opera so it's a dream come true to be able to intersect with it creatively. The auditorium was designed by Renzo Piano and is a stunning space.

Where can people see your work next?

This fall I have a two-part, contemporary art exhibition called With Love which is launching in our New York gallery on September 5th and our Paris gallery on October 15th!
